It looked superb in yellow gold, pink gold enhanced its beauty, it was more than worthy of platinum, but does the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges look good in white gold? You bet it does. This is a piece which defines Haute Horlogerie so it matters not what material is used in its construction, that iconic trio of arrow-shaped bridges are a sight to behold especially when showcased in the generous Vintage 1945 case.
The concept of a movement where the bridges for the barrel, gear train and the tourbillon are aligned on the same axis goes back to 1865 when the “Tourbillon sous Trois Ponts d’Or” pocket watch was first presented. The piece was painstakingly re-awakened in 1981 and ten years later was miniaturised in wristwatch form. The latest celebratory edition is enclosed in a white gold 36.1mm x 35.25 convex Vintage 1945 case. Art Deco in style, with distinctive lugs and a well behaved tucked-in crown it is curvy enough to wear comfortably.
On the plain satin brushed dial, the open bridges are rhodium-plated, handcrafted and polished. The one-minute Tourbillon, also hand-finished comprises of 72 components. The pink gold rhodium-plated identity plates mirror the shape of the bridges and are engraved with the number and reference of the movement.
Inside is the Girard-Perregaux 9600C Automatic Calibre. Its ingenious micro-rotor finds a home beneath the barrel ensuring an unspoiled view of the decorated movement and produces an impressive 48 hours of power reserve despite its diminutive size.
The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges in white gold is a limited edition of 50 pieces and comes presented on a black alligator leather strap.
