Chopard Imperiale Moonphase
2017 GPHG Ladies Category Finalist
Among the final six contenders for top honours in the Ladies Category at the 2017 GPHG awards, the Imperiale Moonphase from Chopard is arguably the one piece which possesses the most feminine of visual features.
With lashings of diamonds, a 36mm white gold case and the pale blue mother of pearl centrepiece with night sky detailing, which provides a backdrop for the newly introduced moonphase display, it is exotic, lavish and very girly.
A brand which has always had the female market foremost in its sights, Chopard have decades of experience of creating beautiful and desirable luxury pieces, wooing generations of A-list Hollywood celebrities and high profile fashionistas. Once again they have captured that essential allure with the exquisite diamond setting and hand finished detailing of this year's Imperiale Moonphase.
It is powered by Chopard's in-house self winding L.U.C 96.25-C movement, a dedicated heart of technical excellence, with micro rotor and meticulously decorated bridges and plates, all on show through the exhibition sapphire caseback.
The Chopard Imperiale Moonphase certainly ticks all of the boxes for success in this important category, but will its inviting charms and elegant beauty be enough to win over the hearts of the jury? In truth it is Chopard doing what Chopard do so well, and for me stylistically not so much of a departure from them. However, if we factor in that beautiful slimline movement then there is a strong horological aspect to it as well. It's definitely something to consider, but still...
