Monaco, 19th November 1857 and Prince Charles III orders a feast day in honour of the Principality. Now, De Bethune have recreated the night sky beneath which the Monegasque residents enjoyed the revelry on that first festival evening, replicating it to superb effect on their De Bethune DB28 Skybridge MC for the upcoming Only Watch 2013 charity auction.
The stars which twinkled on that historical evening are represented using white gold and diamonds, fixed onto a night sky made from titanium which has been mirror polished to be so glossy that it appears to be more liquid than solid. The spherical moonphase at six o'clock and the roundel hour markers conform to the contours of the case and the striking De Bethune lugs form an alliance with the angularity of the bridge which points upwards, with its co-ordinates set for infinity.
Of all the exquisite timepieces donated for the Only Watch auction, the De Bethune DB28 Skybridge model is the one which best epitomises the location of the event, Monaco. Just like the Principality, this De Bethune Pièce Unique is luxurious, original, historical and modern ... and if you have ever driven La Grande Corniche after dark and found a halting point from which to gaze and wonder, then you too will recognise that deliciously rich blue night-time hue.
