Girard-Perregaux Laureato Black Ceramic 42mm
Girard-Perregaux announce the arrival of a fully ceramic, all-black newcomer to its smart casual Laureato collection with the Laureato Black Ceramic.
While unquestionably one of the Grandes Maisons of watchmaking, real success in the luxury men's sports watch sector has been elusive to them, and the brand's love affair with its Laureato collection has been one which has had its ups and downs, even hitting the rocks completely for a while, until 2016, when a fresh and extensive new collection of models signified a renewed emphasis on this distinctive and classic design.
Indeed although many subtle refinements have been made over time, design-wise the Laureato is still very much in touch with its 1975 original, retaining its curved profile with octagonal bezel on a round plinth on top, and with ladies. midsize and men's sizes, from quartz to a skeletonised tourbillon it's clear that it's back on a mission.
Entirely created in ceramic, including the sturdy link bracelet and folding clasp, in the 42mm black case, with circular brushed bezel contrasting with the polished surround, and the light catching pyramid effect of the dial, the Laureato Black Ceramic is a purposeful looking piece.
With Super-LumiNova strips on the brushed steel hands and the applied indices, the legibility is excellent in all light conditions. The date disc is also black with white print, so it matches the dial and the overall overcast theme.
Inside, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture self winding Calibre GP01800-00025 boasts a power reserve of some 54 hours, and the Côtes de Genève decoration on the plate and the rotor are on show through the smoked sapphire crystal on the back.
