TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Gulf Racing 50th Anniversary

TAG Heuer celebrates fiftieth anniversary of maiden Le Mans victory for the Gulf Racing colours with cool fifty-piece Monaco Chrono.

On the week of the 2018 edition of the mighty 24 Hours of Le Mans race, TAG Heuer have announced a very limited Monaco Chronograph featuring the famous Gulf Racing livery, to mark the fifty years since drivers Pedro Rodriguez and Lucien Bianchi in their iconic Ford GT40 crossed the finish line to claim the top step on the podium, having blasted around the French circuit in a blaze of pale blue and orange to take Gulf Racing's maiden victory at Le Mans in 1968.

Of course there have been a number of Gulf themed Monaco editions over the years, including one in 2017 which marked fifty years of Gulf Oil's association with endurance racing, but nevertheless with its squared case, crystal and dial, and an association with motor racing  which has seen it become interwoven into the fabric of the sport's heritage,  its unmistakable retro styling oozes classic cool and it remains both desirable and popular.

Equipped with the Calibre 11 self winding movement, the 39mm stainless steel case features a left hand crown, opposing angled chrono pushers on the right of the squared case. As with the 1969 original the branding is simply 'Heuer' and the Gulf logo and blue and orange stripes are printed onto a deep blue dial with metallic sunray finish, with white small seconds and thirty minute chrono counters at the three and nine respectively, and a date window at the six. Applied steel hour indices are complemented with luminous dot accents, which punctuate a white ring of minute marks that define the dial. Straight edged steel hands are coated with Super-LumiNova and the long red central hand displays the chrono seconds.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Gulf Racing 50th Anniversary is presented on a black calfskin leather strap with perforations and orange inner lining and folding clasp, It will be distinguished with a commemorative print on the sapphire caseback and with a mere fifty pieces being produced it's pretty exclusive and won't hang around for long.
